Product Description

Fiberglass Sand Filters are designed to be installed on large commercial installations such as Olympic size pools, diving pools, and water parks. The standard production incorporates a large access manhole in the top for ease of access to the interior. Inside the filter all internal parts and pipework are upgraded to the highest commercial standard, ensuring long life and minimal servicing. As with all other DAVEY filters, the D series is manufactured from totally noncorrosive materials making it an excellent choice for various long-term applications and installations.

Advantage:

  1. 100% factory test according to NSF50 standard and MINDER standard
  2. The air relief bolt enables easy release of trapped air during the operation of the filter
  3. A large access manhole in the top for ease of access to the interior
  4. Designed to assemble with Butterfly valve
  5. Influent manifold distribution to prevent clogging
  6. 2×3” Oil Pressure Gauge included
  7. The materials used are dependable and are suitable for all-weather performance
  8. UV resistance surface allows the filter to work under direct sunlight
  9. Sand Required: 0.8-1.0 mm
  10. 5-10 years lifetime

System composition

Fine deep-bed filtration, ~10–20 µm

Polishes the water after drum or screen filtration, protecting downstream UV, biofilter and pumps.

Backwash, never replace the sand

A simple multiport valve reverses the flow to flush trapped dirt to drain — low running cost.

Corrosion-resistant tanks

FRP or 316L stainless construction suits both fresh and salt water.

Vertical or horizontal layout

Configured to the site and the required flow.

Multi-media options

Quartz sand graded with glass media or anthracite improves dirt-holding and throughput.

Proven across industries

The same high-rate sand filter design serves aquaculture, public aquaria and commercial pools — a mature supply chain.

Application

  • Mechanical polishing stage in RAS — after drum/screen filtration, before UV and biological treatment
  • Sea- and freshwater farm pre-treatment and intake-water polishing
  • Public aquaria and large ornamental display tanks
  • Commercial swimming pools and spas

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

What does an aquaculture sand filter remove?

It is a deep-bed polishing stage that captures fine suspended solids (typically down to ~10–20 µm) after coarse solids are removed by a drum or screen filter, keeping the water clear and protecting downstream UV, biofilter and pumps.

How is a sand filter cleaned?

When the bed loads up and pressure rises, a simple multiport / backwash valve reverses the flow to flush trapped dirt to drain — no media replacement, just periodic backwash.

What is the sand filter housing made of?

The tank is corrosion-resistant FRP (fiberglass) or stainless steel for fresh- and sea-water duty, in horizontal or vertical layouts to suit the site.

Can one sand filter use different media?

Yes — it runs on graded quartz sand and can take optional glass or anthracite for multi-media grading to improve solids capture and flow.
